The Action Committee for Tourism (ACT) is an all volunteer group that plans and executes events to promote tourism in the city of Ocean Shores, Washington. Our website will tell you about upcoming ACT events and how you can take part in them as a spectator, participant, vendor, or volunteer.

Sand Sculptors and Chainsaw Carvers Compete
Date: June 26-28, 2009
Place: Ocean Shores Convention Center & on the beach

Castles! Mermaids! Pelicans! Bears!  The fun starts Friday, June 26th and runs through Sunday, June, 28th.  Admission is free.

Come to the beach to watch Master, Intermediate, and Novice Sand Sculpting teams compete for over $5,000.00 in cash prizes.  JOIN IN!!!   Register a team of your family and friends in the Family Division and vie for hundreds of dollars in gift certificates and merchandise donated by the business community of Ocean Shores.  Registration is noon to 6 p.m. Friday, June 26th at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.  Free sand sculpting lessons will be held Friday, on the beach from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  All sand competition takes place Saturday, June 27th, beginning with check-in and plot assignment from 7 to 9 a.m.  Construction begins at 9 a.m. and culminates with the Judging at 3 p.m. and the Awards Ceremony at 3:30 p.m.  Watch the demonstration sand sculpture take shape at the Convention Center beginning Wednesday, June 24th.

Meanwhile, at the Ocean Shores Convention Center, Master Chainsaw Carvers from Europe, Japan, Australia, and throughout the United States compete for thousands of dollars in prizes and merchandise.  Competition takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The Awards Ceremony will be on Sunday at 3 p.m.  Internationally known auctioneer, Boaz Backus will conduct Auctions at the end of each day’s competition.  Here is your chance to take home a piece of original art.

Additional activities at the Convention Center include over 100 Food and Craft Vendors.  There will be raffles with the drawings taking place on Sunday at the 3:00 Awards Ceremony.  Raffle tickets and T-shirts will be available at the Visitor Information Center beginning June 1st.

The Five Star Dealerships Sand & Sawdust Festival is presented by ACT – Action Committee for Tourism, a local volunteer organization.

If you would like to enter your family or team in the sand competition at the 2009 Five Star Dealerships Sand & Sawdust Festival, please print the Entry Form and mail it to us with the appropriate payment for your group. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, please contact us for pre-approval, print the Vendor Contract and mail it to us with the payment listed in the contract.   • Music Fest

    Two of Ocean Shores'popular events, Country Music Jam & North Coast Folk Music Festival combine to bring a weekend of music to the Convention Center. Saturday brings open jam sessions, folk music performers and chili cook-off competition. Enjoy a dinner / dance Saturday night and gospel music Sunday morning. Numerous vendors will be on hand throughout the weekend.PUBLIC INVITED. ADMISSION IS FREE. Dinner tickets are $10.

  • Flag Day Parade & Dance
    June 12, 2010
    Convention Center

    A chance to show our patriotic spirit. The parade features more than fifty entries and a Grand Marshall. One of the only Flag Day parades in Western Washington. End the day with dining and dancing from 6pm until midnight at the Ocean Shores Shilo Inn.
